NCAA Mascots
Kudos to the NCAA for finally changing the mascot rules. No more mascots duragotory to Native Americans.

What surprises me, however, is the fact that most people who cheer for these schools fail to realize how insensitive they're being. Ok...so if a school uses "Redskins" or "Fighting Souix" -- most people don't see it as being a derogatory term. But, if a school were to use a mascot involving, God forbid, the good-old "N" word, both blacks and whites would be up in arms! Yet, there's no difference in the type of slang being used in either example. Why do most Americans find that difficult to understand?

Me? I'm all for animals as mascots. Yeah Golden Gophers! Beavers would be another good one. Being an alum of Drake University, I think Drake should return to a previously used mascot. Instead of being the Drake Bulldogs, it should be the Drake Mallards! Or, I would even go for the Drake Ducks!

NASA JSC interview countdown: T-minus 5 days.

My sister is a U Illinois alumna. The Illini is a rather tasteful depiction of a Native American (so is the So Illinois Saluki), however it's been dubbed "offensive" by some. It's not like Fl St (the tomahawk chop). I like the idea that there is going to be more sensitivity to Native American concerns but it remains to be seen if the policy gets enforced in ridiculous ways.
